Interior Architecture
Comprehensive interior architecture services including space planning, finish selections, built-in details, and lighting design.

Scheer & Co. is a full-service interior design firm with studios in New York and Austin, creating highly personal interiors rooted in history, shaped by contemporary life, and never confined to a single style.
Our work spans residential interior architecture, renovations, furnishings, custom millwork, lighting, and construction administration. We approach architecture and decoration as parts of the same conversation, considering how a home functions and flows alongside the objects, materials, art, and details that give it character.
New York homes come with histories of their own. Whether working within the constraints and character of an existing apartment, reimagining a townhouse, or collaborating on a more extensive renovation, we begin by understanding what is already there—and what the home could become.

We are drawn to interiors that feel collected rather than prescribed: spaces where periods and references can coexist, where contemporary pieces sit comfortably alongside antiques, and where architectural detail provides a framework for personality rather than competing with it.
The result isn't about adhering to a particular look. It's about creating a home that feels specific to the people who live there.
Our involvement often begins well before furnishings are selected.
For renovations, we work alongside clients, architects, builders, fabricators, and craftspeople to consider the interior as a whole—from space planning and circulation to architectural finishes, custom millwork, lighting, and material selections.
We believe successful renovation is as much about knowing what to preserve as knowing what to change. Existing architecture can provide the character and constraints that make a project interesting; thoughtful intervention can make it work for contemporary life without erasing what gave it substance in the first place.
Our work can extend from early design development and documentation through construction administration, procurement, installation, and final styling.

Architecture establishes the framework. Furnishings make a home personal.
We source and design furniture, lighting, textiles, window treatments, rugs, art, antiques, and custom pieces with an emphasis on materiality, craftsmanship, comfort, and longevity.

Rather than sourcing everything from the same period or point of view, we prefer the tension that comes from mixing references thoughtfully. The goal is an interior that feels as though it has developed over time—even when much of it has been considered at once.
In New York, space has a way of making every decision matter.
Custom millwork allows us to think beyond furniture and use the architecture itself to solve problems—creating a place for the books, the bar, the television we'd rather not look at, the collection that's outgrown its shelves, or simply the things of everyday life that need somewhere to go.

We design kitchens, libraries, bars, dressing rooms, built-ins, cabinetry, and one-off architectural elements around both the room and the rituals that happen within it.
The best solutions don't simply add storage. They become part of the architecture—making a home work harder without making it feel like it's trying to.
The services we offer to shape a project from concept through completion

Design and sourcing of furniture and lighting. This includes both custom-designed pieces and carefully curated selections, chosen to balance comfort, elegance, and functionality.
We believe the most compelling interiors resist easy categorization. They bring together history and modernity, refinement and a little irreverence, architectural rigor and the deeply personal.
Our approach is rooted in craftsmanship, individuality, and a willingness to mix periods, influences, materials, and ideas—creating rooms that feel collected over time rather than prescribed from the start.
We don't believe a home should look as though it belongs to a designer.
It should look unmistakably like it belongs to you.
